Internships The MC2 internship is designed to provide each student with an opportunity to work one on one with an adult mentor in a career area of personal interest. Students must prepare for an internship through researching the career, creating a resume and cover letter, and interviewing at the potential internship site. Once established in an internship, students must maintain a journal and identify and complete a project that adds value to the work site as well as evidences application of the student’s learning. Service learning and job shadows are smaller scale learning opportunities that help prepare students for an internship. Tuesdays and Thursdays are internship days at MC2.
4 Components of an internship:
One on one relationship with an adult, doing
Real work
Around a student’s interest
Outside the school building
The first two components are the essential components. The second two are negotiable. A student’s internship may arise through a personal connection and/or may take place in school.
4 Main purposes for Advisor/Mentor/Student Meetings:
Discuss student’s performance and strengths
Identify any areas of concern
Identify potential projects/check on project progress
Identify learning objectives that can be developed at school
